How do I change the default icons and color of the battery level indicator and time and date? Also, how, actually, is the level indicator "linked" to the battery level? I've seen other pcf's where people have changed these icons and would like to know how to do this.
Thanks.

You need a decrompression application that can open the file... the configuration file is just a compressed file, you just need to open it, find the battery icon files and edit them how you want... be careful though, it's easy to corrupt since you'll be editing the file directly... I believe there are detailed directions if you do a search on this forum.

Time and date colors can be changed by editing ConfigEdit.XML. Battery Icon is actually 5 images and MUST be edited by an Image Editor to change the colors.

If you post an e-mail adress, I have a set of battery indicators I can send you. I've edited them to have green for the first 2 bars of the indicator, orange for the third, and red for the last. The "LOW" indicator is all red with white lettering. They've all been outlined in white, to stand out against a dark background.

Just to be safe, make a backup copy of the PCF you're editing.

The PCF is, in reality, a ZIP file. Simply right click it and select "Open With" and select Winzip, Winrar, Winace, or whatever compression utility you use.

Extract the Bitmaps folder, open it, and find the battery level indicators. There will be 5 of them.

Re-number the replacements to match the originals, and replace the ones in the Bitmaps folder with the ones you've just re-numbered.

Delete the Bitmaps folder from the copy of your PCF you're working with, and add the bitmaps folder with the new indicators.

Test your PCF with the emulator in PPENG, but unless you've made a mistake it should work fine.

Important: Make no other changes to the PCF using PPENG, once you've opened the PCF with Winzip. Any changes you make that alter the numbering sequence of the bitmaps, in the bitmaps folder, will make the altered PCF unusable.

Boarderbiker,

Can you please also email me a copy as these sound like the ones I also designed and I would like to see which I like better.

Thanks,
Lyndel

One update on the Time Icon. There are 2 bitmaps associated with time. There is one that is solid gray and there is a 2nd one with a clock. This 2nd bitmap with the clock is the one that is used when there is an active timer on the remote. So, changing the clock to a different color "will" also require you to edit the color of the clock in the bitmap if you desire to change the color of the clock used to indicate timers.

FYI, the zip BoarderBiker send to me just had images. I still had to edit the ConfigEdit.xml file to use the images.
